DLO

DLO is Symantec Desktop, Laptop back ap application. It allows synchronous backup of users desktop files stored in the Mydocuments folder to a central server. It is possible to restore files to the same PC or a new PC and is particularly useful when either a laptop crashes, is lost or is being replaced.

DLO works not on backing up the entire file but breaking it down in to small bytes of data. If a file is subsequently updated, DLO will look for the different byte segment and will upoad only those before reassembling the file for the user. DLO is good for most documents but is not an efficient way to back up Octlook files, which do not allow for breaking down the file in to smaller byte size segments.

DLO replaced iFolder in 2009 and whilst it uses a similar architecture there are a lot more administrator features to control what parameters users can set for themselves
