One of the most noteworthy tombs in Pompeii belongs to Publius Vesonius Phileros located at the Nucerian Gate. A freedman he constructed a tomb that included his patron Vesonia and his erstwhile friend Marcus Orfellius Faustus, with whom he later fell out. He probably did not want the expense of removing his statue and he had no other use for it in any case. So he decided to add a plaque articulating the low behaviour of his former friend. He added also to the plaque an abbreviation for Augustalis, which signifies prestige or acceptance amongst his fellow Pompeians
