According to Strabo was the Homeric island of Scheria and its earliest inhabitants were the Phaeacians. Skherie is probably modern day Corfu. Apollonios Rhodios depicts the island in Argonautica as a place visited by the Jason and the Argonauts. Jason and Medea were married here in 'Medea's Cave'.
