1. Copying Best Practices is not a substitute for Strategy 2. Companies view 3 letter acronyns as solutions rather than stepping stones and look at their mechanics and not their substance - i.e. learning to do things that other companies cannot 3. Strategic flexibility is an objective 4. Strategic Fit according to Skinner is Company's mfg system should equal its competitive strategy 5. Are trade off really necessary - Japanese companies have achieved both - Lean Manufacturing avoided the wastes that compromise flexibility 6. Does flexibility negate the need for The Focus Factory 7. Is strategic fit less important than strategic flexibility e.g. Sony Walkman 8. Is speed and flexibility more important than cost and volume 9. What does the market want innovation or low cost or both and do they change? 10.Focussed approach says difficult tasks become routine and it can take on more flexibility 11. Learning bringing in house some capabilitiy that it oes not know very well may be less learn but builds learning and capabilities that the company needs for the future
