Local and Long Distance Carriers
In 2010 WNA used Schooley Mitchell to evaluate our current local and long distance carrier costs (excluding Polar Plastic) and recommend cost savings and suggest moving to new carriers if necessary. [1], [2].

Currently AT&T provided long distance calling on two PRI Lines, while local calls were provided by Verizon. One of the factors that played into the decision to move away from AT&T was the poor service on the lines. The last mile circuit was owned by Verizon and brought in to the facility over copper. This had proved to be very unreliable, especially in the cold winter months in Massachusetts. Consequently the lines failed for a number of days on a few occasions. AT&T failed to take any responsibility for the circuit failure as the hardware was not owned by them. Nor were they prepared to contact Verizon for us not were they prepared to offer any compensation for the outages. Their rationale was that Verizon provided almost 100% uptime to them as a whole in the region, albeit significantly less to us. Consequently there was no reason for Verizon to compensate AT&T and therefore no reason to compensate us. Therefore their SLA to us in their opinion remained at 100%.
This was clearly untenable and at the first opportunity we agreed to swap carriers at the end of the contract if the new carrier was preapred to agree with Verizon that the new phone lines would be brought in over the fibre connection recently installed for our new network.
